Our lovely hygienist Kayleigh has kindly put together some information surrounding current COVID-19 guidelines within dental hygiene appointments

You will be aware through our practice updates that COVID -19 has changed the way we can operate as clinicians, hopefully not forever.

Sadly we cannot provide any treatment that produces an aerosol (this includes use of the ultrasonic scaler).

It’s not all about the aerosol though. We as Dental Hygienists have a passion for the dental profession and we are here to make a difference.

The role of the Dental Hygienist is still primarily to engage, educate, motivate and change behaviour within oral healthcare. Treatment is only a part of what we do.

For current fee’s please follow the link below; https://www.aloeveradental.co.uk/treatment-fees/

So, going forward this is how your appointments will look;

  1. Diagnose– we will still do all our usual oral cancer screening/gum disease screening
  2. Disclose – We will disclose your teeth; this is a great tool for you to see how well you are cleaning and for us to show you how to improve on the areas that need extra attention.
  3. Motivate– this is our time to really motivate you with your oral hygiene and show you how to modify your techniques with your electric toothbrush. We will demonstrate how to clean in between your teeth with various interdental aids.
  4. Cleaning– we will remove deposits of tartar/calculus that prevents you from cleaning effectively and plaque that is causing areas of inflammation.

We will try our best to remove any staining with our hand scaling techniques, but we would like you to understand this can be done more effectively when we can use the Ultrasonic again.

What about PPE?

All our treatment will be carried out wearing extra PPE on top of our usual PPE for your safety and our safety.

We are looking forward to getting you all up to speed with your oral hygiene soon.
