Our dental nurse Dannielle is sharing her Invisalign journey, step by step. She has shared some tips already and will continue to do so throughout the course of her treatment.

How how you found the Invisalign journey so far?

Absolutely fine!

I won’t lie, the first three days I though ‘What have I signed up for!?’, I was struggling to take the trays in and out of my mouth.

With Invisalign, you have to take the trays out every time you eat or drink (anything other than water). But after those first three days, suddenly I could take them out easily and you soon get used to the eating and drinking part. You just form new habits and ways of doing things. Being prepared is key!

Has there been any pain?

Pain, No. When I change onto the next set of Invisalign trays they can be a little tender for the first day and night. Nothing that can’t be solved with a paracetamol!

After a day or so the tenderness settles.

The first three days the little button on my teeth also felt really sharp on my lips whilst I had the trays out to eat. This also went away after a few days.

Have you seen any movement?

Yes! Especially in the lower arch. I am really starting to see those lower teeth line up now which is amazing after such a short space of time.

What has been the biggest challenge?

Initially the biggest challenge was learning how to take them in and out. I thought that as a dental nurse I would find this part easy but I really didn’t.

After three days it became much easier, and now I don’t even think about it.

Do you have a lisp?

I have a slight lisp (I think!). I feel like I notice it more than others around me though. Everyone around me says that I sound as I normally do.

What would be your advice for anyone about to start their Invisalign journey?

I would say to be be prepared for Invisalign. I’ve shared a previous blog post ‘Out and about with Invisalign’ https://www.aloeveradental.co.uk/out-and-about-with-invisalign/

This has made things really easy for me when I’m out of the house. Also to think about your eating patterns. I don’t tend to snack as much as I used to so it’s probably been great for my diet!
