Its that time of year again when the Children are back to school, you are back to work or perhaps you are returning to the office and routines begin once more.

Staying healthy can often be right at the bottom of our list as those busy schedules resume.

We thought we would put together some tips and tricks to help you and your family stay healthy and happy.

1. Preparing healthy, filling lunches

By creating time in your schedule to do this simple step, you ensure that everyone in the family gets a healthy satisfying lunch. (and perhaps even dinner too if you really get into the food prep!)

The NHS change for life App, which you can download on to your phone has some great ideas of healthy, balanced family lunches that don’t take a great deal of time to make. https://www.nhs.uk/change4life/recipes/healthier-lunchboxes#lunchbox-recipes

back to school

Pinterest is also a great place to look for meal inspiration – Back to school lunches do not have to be boring!

We shared a similar blog post last year with a break down of what to include in your lunch box to ensure it’s balanced and keeps you full for longer.

2. Refillable water bottles

It wouldn’t be an Aloe Vera Dental Studio blog post if we didn’t mention refillable water bottles.

We can not emphasise enough how important it is to drink lots of water. By getting in to the habit of carrying a refillable water bottle with you when you go back to school or work, it will remind and motivate you to drink more water. Never go thirsty again!

This is also a great way of being more eco-friendly = WIN WIN!

3. Schedule in some time for exercise

We can always make time for the things we put first. Whether it be a full on gym session or class, bike ride or walk. Be sure to pop it in your diary and stick to it. Your health and wellbeing will thank you for it.

Going back to school or work shouldn’t affect taking care of ourselves (and we all so very often let it)

Now that classes have started back, why not try something new? If you really enjoy something you are much more likely to stick to it.

If you are local to Chelmsford, Pure Gym have some great classes available for adults; https://www.puregym.com/gyms/chelmsford-meadows/timetable/

4. Get enough sleep

Too many of us do not get enough sleep every night. This can really effect our concentration and focus levels and have such a negative affect on our bodies.

It’s not silly to set bed times (especially for children) to ensure that everyone is getting enough sleep according to their age.

For a guide on how much sleep you or your child need, follow the below link;

https://www.sleepfoundation.org/how-sleep-works/how-much-sleep-do-we-really-need

If you struggle to fall asleep, perhaps limiting screen time past a certain time would be beneficial as well as caffeine and sugary snacks.

5. Attend your regular appointments

Whether it be the dentist, the hygienist, optician or GP.

Please do not let returning to school or work stop you from taking care of your health.

6. Take some time to relax

Whether it be as simple as taking a hot bath, going for a walk in the woods, practicing some yoga or meditating. Keeping your stress levels down is a great way staying healthy.

Practicing some deep breathing exercises with children is also a great way of teaching them coping mechanisms for stressful situations (and managing temper tantrums!).

There are some great children’s ‘mindfulness’ books on the market to help create a lovely relaxing and calm environment – perfect for a bedtime story.

We hope you found our tips and tricks to stay healthy when returning to school and work helpful, we would love to hear any other you might have over on our social media platforms.
