happy healthy

First of all, the AV Team would like to wish you all a very Happy New Year.

During this very difficult time that we still find ourselves in, we wanted to share some tips and motivation to keep you happy and healthy.

1. Self Care

2021 has been dubbed the year of ‘self-care’.

That of course varies between each of us. Whether that be simply making time each week for a long soak in the bath and a face mask, to putting on a fresh layer of fake tan once a week, perhaps its giving yourself an ‘at home’ manicure or pedicure or simply styling your hair nicely.

Self Care most certainly makes us feel better and can really lift your spirit on a down day (we all have them!)

2. If you are working from home/ staying at home – Maintain a bit of routine.

Alarmingly, during the first lockdown, we saw a rise in patients with a build up of plaque and tartar.

After discussing it with our patients, it became obvious that people had simply lost their oral hygiene routine.

The good habits they had built up, had been lost. This was not good news for their oral health.

Only remembering to brush their teeth at lunchtime or once per day, or they have stopped flossing (which they were once very good at doing), were all explanations that we have been hearing.

Its not too late to restart or kick start your oral hygiene routine at home. If you need a bit of a boost and some tailored information, our lovely hygienists are here to help, so perhaps schedule and appointment ASAP.

We are creatures of habit, routine helps us feel more secure, more in control and most importantly…Happier!

3. Eating a healthy balanced diet

Healthy food does not mean just eating plain chicken, broccoli and sweet potatoes all day (unless that’s your thing!)

Trying out some new healthy recipes each day will not only be good for your body but can give you something to look forward to.

Dannielle: I’ve personally been loving the Joe Wicks Veggie Recipes (I’ve not quite committed to doing ‘Veganuary’ however I have reduced my meat consumption – and I do feel great for it!). https://www.womenshealthmag.com/uk/food/weight-loss/g31127628/vegetarian-joe-wicks-recipes/

4. Moving your body.

Release those good endorphins!

The Gyms may be closed, but that doesn’t stop you from dancing around your living room to your favourite album for half hour.

Going for a walk or run, following a free workout on Youtube such as HIIT or Pilates is all better than nothing.

Take away any unrealistic pressure on yourself that can leave you feeling guilty and rubbish. One thing per day… whatever it may be, however you are feeling that day, is a great place to start.

Have fun!

5. Fresh Air

Without breaking any rules of course, going for a walk outside (even if its just round the block once) can have an amazing impact on your mental health.

happier healthier you

6. Don’t loose contact

Check-in on your friends and family, a phone call, a Face-time or Zoom call can be the perfect tonic to a ‘down-day’.

Laughter is the best medicine!

7. Gratitude

Practicing gratitude works wonders for some people. Perhaps before you go to bed each night, write down three things you are grateful for.

8. Reduce the Caffeine ->Increase the water intake

Caffeine can lead to us feel more anxious. It can also lead to insomnia, digestive issues and high blood pressure just to name a few.

Why not try reducing your caffeine intake whilst increasing your water intake?

Drinking water significantly affects energy levels and brain function. It has so many positive effects on our body.

Our Favourite tip: Use a refillable water bottle that you enjoy drinking out of. You will naturally drink more.

9. Ask for help when needed

If your struggling, don’t be afraid to ask for help. You’re not a burden. You’re not failing. You are worth it.
